. Stormwater Management & Water Storage

Columbia Green has over a decade of experience on projects across North America and we are consistently keeping up on the latest municipal codes and green requirements in cities and states, like Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, Chicago, Seattle and New York. This allows us to advise Engineers and designers on how to design our green roofs into the overall stormwater plan.

Our green roof and blue roof systems can give you more stormwater credit.  We have attained special approvals in certain jurisdictions to allow for our 4” media depth system to equal an vs 8” system, providing a green roof/blue roof with the same stormwater retention for half the cost. Contact us and we can work together on a green roof that best fits your project stormwater requirements.

LAYERED SYSTEM FOR STORMWATER MANAGEMENT

The Columbia Green Layered (built-up) system affords the most flexibility to adjust the green roof section to meet your project stormwater requirements. We can work with you to dial in a section that maximizes stormwater retention while adjusting to cost, structural or plant requirements.

Our Layered system is designed specifically to optimize stormwater management. Our high-water retention media meets FLL guidelines and typically will meet your stormwater needs.  High water retention mineral wool layer option also available for lightweight systems.

TRAY SYSTEMS FOR STORMWATER MANAGEMENT

Columbia Green’s Tray system was designed with stormwater in mind. It has a channelized bottom to maximize stormwater retention and air flow. The patented design can reduce both the amount and rate of stormwater run‐off.

Another key point of our system is the integrated drainage design.  Most trays are not designed to retain water and nutrients, they just hold the soil, and let water flow straight through. Our tray has integrated drainage micro-holes to provide slow, metered drainage. This helps the system hold onto water and nutrients, outperforming other systems. The last unique piece is our overlapping and interlocking tray design. Most trays just rest next to each other – over time they may shift apart. Ours are fully interlocking, creating a monolithic system that keeps the trays in place and retains the most stormwater.  Detailed stormwater retention calculations are available upon request.

WATER STORAGE UNITS UNDER GREEN ROOF/BLUE ROOF

HYBRID GREEN/BLUE ROOF

Looking for additional rooftop stormwater storage? Columbia Green’s Water Storage units allow for rooftop detention underneath our Tray and Layered Green Roof systems.  This hybrid system or blue roof/green roof allows you to maximize your rooftop for stormwater management- allowing for projects that want to green the rooftop, while also providing stormwater detention.
